ACTIVITY THREE

TASK 3/1
Been looking at care space.  Have to register to get online and there are some excellent topics covered on their pages, including a thought provoking discussion board via threads

Also part of the gazelle teaching and learning group.  The meetings I attended and in particular the threads online helped me look at ways to use IT (which lead me to creating my first blog, goanimate video and socrative quiz). Check out below for a short video created on goanimate (not cannot be over 30 seconds long I believe)

You need to register for both.  Anyone can register for community care but when joining the Engagement  teaching and learning group, you have to be approved.  The Gazelle group focusses primarily on using IT to engage students in learning. This has helped me a lot with IT ideas and helped me trouble shoot (i.e by everyone sharing ideas, links and what works and does not work well, this can be used to inform own teaching practice).  The Community care discussion tool is focussed more on my specialised area. There are some excellent topics being discussed which can then be used in the classroom.  There are threads for Adult Social Care services, Children Social Care Services, Social Work Profession, Job/Interview Tips,  Social Care Forum and General Discussion Forum.  When you click on each, a number of threads comes up (this is therefore more broad in terms of content and variety than the Gazelle Community group).  In saying this, Gazelle has a number of groups and I am just a member of one so this isn't a realistic evaluation.

Ok... so I found a thread that I have a particular interest in (personality disorder).

I wrote a reply and posted but it seems to have gone into cyber space.  When I do this on the Gazelle discussion boards, it is instantly there.  I assume that my post is being moderated before it is shown.  I can see the value of this (to avoid abuse etc) and for my own blogs (the ones the students use) all comments are moderated.  However, my blogs are not 'closed groups'.  I did wonder if I should make it closed but wanted parents to see them so decided, for now, to keep it this way.

I will update here if I get a reply to my thread (the site does say it will email me)

UPDATE: Also looked at this

looking at the use of social media in higher education (though I feel this is relevant for FE too).

Not sure you can click on link unless you are a member, but here's an example of how social workers can use this space as a 'supervision' type forum. In this example, someone asks about 'difficult clients' with abusive behaviour and the discussion explores different ways in conflict resolution
